About

Genius Ideas

Creative – Collaborative – Positive

“It is our mission to bring young people and communities together creatively to make the world a better place”.

Genius Ideas is a consultancy business that aims to bring about change by working with children and young people, communities and organisations to unleash their ideas and creativity.

The name comes from a quote about one of my projects from Hazel Blears when she was in charge of Communities and Local Government. She referred to ‘unleashing the genius’ in communities through participatory budgeting. I like the quote a lot and think it communicates some of the core values I aim to promote through my work.

Nick Brereton – Principal consultant

I am an independent researcher and youth and community worker. I have over 20 years of experience in working with children and young people and communities across the North of England. I have worked in the voluntary and local government sectors. For nearly ten years I coordinated work with children and young people around participation and children’s rights in Newcastle.

My track record is of innovation in finding solutions that work, giving young people the power to make their ideas happen and delivering exciting and challenging projects that make a difference.

I work with other colleagues to ensure the best skills are brought to bear on any project.

Genius Ideas' mission is:

“to bring young people and communities together creatively to make the world a better place”.

Through working together we are more than the sum of our parts. The best ideas come through sharing, listening to and working with one another.

I believe that we can make the world a better place through some very simple ideas. Using engaging, creative methods of research and group work I can help your community group, organisation or project access solutions to problems and challenges big and small.

Young people’s ideas are usually practical, simple to deliver and effective – if they are given a chance to work! The ideas and approach I use also work with adults and I am happy to work with any group.
